Vipers to take on rival Richmond 18 times during regular season

ROANOKE, VA - The United Hockey League (UHL) released its 2005-06 regular season game schedule Wednesday, announcing that the season will officially open on October 21st, 2005. The Roanoke Valley Vipers will host the Fort Wayne Komets at the Roanoke Civic Center on the UHL's opening day to kick off their inaugural season in the Roanoke Valley.

Each UHL member club will play a total of 76 games during the regular season, 38 home and 38 away. The Vipers will play 29 weekend home games, including nine Fridays, 13 Saturdays, and seven Sundays. Nine Wednesday home games are also on the schedule for the Vipers.

The Vipers will take on their in-state rivals, the Richmond RiverDogs a total of 18 times throughout the regular season, nine of which will be played in Roanoke.

"We are really pleased to be able to give our fans the opportunity to see the making of a great hockey rivalry," Vipers owner and governor Kristen Dixon said of the Richmond v. Roanoke season series. "We really appreciate the hard work the officials in the league office put forth to be able to work as many games against Richmond into our schedule as possible."

The busiest month of the season for the Vipers will be March, as they play 16 games, seven of which are at home. The team will play 13 in both November and December, including nine at home in November. The Vipers will take the ice 12 times in February, only three of which will be played in Roanoke.

Although game times are subject to change, the Vipers expect to play Friday and Saturday home games at 7:30p.m., Sunday games at 5:00p.m., and all weeknight games at 6:30p.m.
