Trashers roster taking shape with new faces and returning players

DANBURY, CT-The Danbury Trashers, proud members of the United Hockey League have signed a number of new and returning players for their second season, it was announced by Team President A.J. Galante.

Three trades highlight the list of newcomers as Danbury acquired high scoring forward David Hymovitz from Richmond in exchange for defenseman J.F. David. Hymovitz, scored a career best 100 points on 32 goals for the RiverDogs last season. The 31-year-old Randolph, MA native has 451 points on 211 goals in 659 lifetime games in the UHL, AHL and IHL.

Goaltender Sylvain Daigle, who led the Muskegon Fury to the Colonial Cup for the past two seasons, was dealt by Port Huron (who selected him in the expansion draft) to Danbury in exchange for forward Mike Bayrack. Daigle, 28, was 21-6-1 with a 2.08 GAA and .930 save percentage last season for the Fury.

Also joining the Trashers is forward Jaime Thompson, who was dealt by Quad City in exchange for forwards Brent Gretzky and Doug Christiansen. Thompson, 31, scored 59 points on 22 goals in 55 games last season for the Mallards and Elmira Jackals. The Framingham, MA native has 404 points on 211 goals in 440 career games.

A number of free agents have been signed by Danbury including former Providence College standouts Drew and Mike Omicioli. The West Warwick, RI natives both played last season with Asiago HC in Italy, while Mike also spent some time with Louisiana in the ECHL. Both players have AHL experience, Drew with Providence and Mike with Portland, Providence, Lowell and Hershey.

Danbury added another tough forward with the signing of Carlyle Lewis, who split last season with South Carolina of the ECHL and Portland of the AHL. In 62 games, Lewis scored 30 points on 10 goals while accruing 244 penalty minutes. The 6-3 234lb Middleton, Nova Scotia native has scored 140 points on 61 goals in 396 career games with 1,290 penalty minutes.

Rounding out the list of recent free agent signings is 21-year-old rookie forward Jean-Michel Daoust, who spent last season in the LNAH with Sherbrooke St. Francois. The 5-7 160 lb forward scored 23 points on eight goals in 24 games last season.

Players returning to Danbury from last season include forwards Brad Wingfield, Francis Belanger, Jonathan Gagnon, Jeff Daw, Jon Mirasty and Alex Goupil. Other returnees include defensemen Mario Larocque and Dave MacIsaac and goaltender Scott Stirling.

"We will be a more disciplined and skilled team while also being meaner and tougher than last season," said Team President A.J. Galante.
