St. Cloud Rox Fall After Comeback to Willmar, 4-3

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud Rox and the Willmar Stingers moved their series to Joe Faber Field Monday night for their final game of the series. The Rox came back from a three-point deficit to the Stingers but fell by a final score of 4-3.

In the top of the first Willmar took a 1-0 lead over the Rox off a sacrifice fly out to left field. The Stingers would extend their lead 2-0 in the second as Logan Moon hit a solo bomb over the left field fence on one out.

Willmar was able to put up another run in the top of the seventh to make it a 3-0 lead and held the Rox to only one hit in the first six innings.

St. Cloud would start to get the bats going in the eighth as Bradley Strong hit a single with one out on the board. Strong then stole second before Devin Pearson reached on an error by the shortstop and moved him to third. Daniel Comstock grounded out to second, scoring Strong for the first run of the game. The Rox ended the inning with one run on one hit to trail Willmar 3-1.

Willmar's Zack Tillery made it a 4-1 game in the top of the ninth posting a solo home run on two outs.

The Rox would answer though in the ninth making a run for it as Chris Paul had a lead off single to start the bottom half of the inning. Clay Williamson followed with another single for the Rox putting two runners on base. In a two out situation the Rox flourished as Blake Headley doubled scoring Paul to trail 4-2 and Strong would reach on a walk to load the bases. Willmar was then charged with a wild pitch as the Rox brought home Williamson to make it a 4-3 game. In the final at-bat St. Cloud was unable to tie the game up to fall 4-3 against the Stingers.

Willmar and St. Cloud end their two game series with a split as they each got a win on the road.

Making the start for the Rox on the mound was Kyle Davis as he pitched five innings and recorded the loss taking his record to 4-2 on the season. Also seeing action was Jordan Talbot and John Oltman for two innings each.

The St. Cloud Times Rox' Player of the Game is Blake Headley. Headley went 1-for-1 that was a RBI double as he came into the game in the ninth at third base.

The St. Cloud Rox (21-26, 7-5 Second Half) will be back in action Tuesday night as they head to Duluth, Minn. for one game against the Huskies before coming back to St. Cloud for a two game series against the Huskies. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m. from Wade Stadium.

The Rox will bring their series against the Duluth Huskies back to St. Cloud Wednesday and Thursday for 7:05 p.m. game times. St. Cloud will cap off a home stretch with a two game series against the Alexandria Blue Anchors on Friday and Saturday.
