Wausau Woodchucks News Release
WAUSAU - The Wisconsin Woodchucks fell to the Lakeshore Chinooks 7-2 on Tuesday night as a four-run fifth inning by the Chinooks lead them to victory.
The Woodchucks struck first in the contest when Matt Tellor hit a single that allowed Tyler Stieb to come into score as the "ÃËChucks took an early 1-0 lead.
Back-to-back doubles in the Chinooks' first at-bat answered the Woodchucks' early run as Chris Manning came into score from a Sawyer Polen double.
This time a ground-out to shortstop by Tellor in the top of the third inning was enough to bring home Jake Jefferies on the play to regain a 2-1 Woodchucks' lead.
The Chinooks again had an answer for the Woodchucks' run thanks to a solo home run by Jerrick Suiter tying the game up at two in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Chinooks plated four runners in the bottom of the fifth inning which would be plenty of runs for them in the contest. With the bases loaded, Polen this time drove the runner in on a hard hit ball to third base that Woodchucks' third baseman Kirby Taylor could not come up with. Aaron Machbitz then hit a ground ball that got through the right side of the infield that brought home Manning and Tyler Wolfe on the play to give the Chinooks a 5-2 lead. Polen later scored in the inning when Suiter grounded into a double play to give the Chinooks a 6-2 lead.
The Chinooks would tack on one more run for good measure as Manning drove in Jared Fon with a single.
The Woodchucks will travel to Wisconsin Rapids as they begin a three-game series against the Rafters. First pitch on Wednesday is set for 7:05. The Woodchucks will return to Athletic Park on Friday as the Rafters make their way to Wausau.
