Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
The Lakeshore Chinooks finished the two game set with the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Tuesday night at Kapco Park. It was a battle early as the Woodchucks put the pressure on Lakeshore early, but a 4-run 5th inning led to a 7-2 win for the Chinooks. Jerrick Suiter (TCU) stated, "It helps when you have a lot of energy and it is easy to play in front of."
The Woodchucks struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning. A lead-off single followed by a one out walk put runners on first and second base for Matt Tellor who knocked an RBI single to right field to take an early 1-0 lead.
Lakeshore bounced back in the bottom of the 1st inning. Chris Manning (Valparaiso) led off the Chinooks with a double looking to spark the Chinooks. Sawyer Polen (Kent State) followed driving an RBI double to left field tying the game 1-1.
In the top of the 3rd Tellor delivered yet again with an RBI ground out regaining the lead for the Woodchucks 2-1. In the bottom of the 4th inning with two outs, Jerrick Suiter (TCU) launched a solo home run over the left field wall to tie the game once again 2-2. "It felt really good off the bat, it was the first I knew I got all of all season."
The Chinooks kept the pressure on in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jared Fon (UW-Whitewater) led the inning off with a double, followed by Tyler Wolfe (Des Moines Area CC) and Chris Manning reaching to load the bases. Sawyer Polen hit a grounder to Woodchuck third baseman looking to throw the runner out at home, but an error resulted in the first lead of the game for Lakeshore and all runners to be safe. Aaron Machbitz (South Dakota State) broke the game open with a 2 run RBI single to right field making the score 5-2. After a pitching change, Lakeshore grounded into a double play bringing home the fourth run of the inning pushing the score 6-2.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Lakeshore scored for the third consecutive inning. After Fon found himself on second base, Manning knocked in his first RBI of the night running away with the game and getting the 7-2 win. Chinooks starter Joe Greenfield (Eastern Illinois) went six strong innings giving up two runs on four hits striking out five.
The Chinooks (10-4) head on the road to take on the Battle Creek Bombers in a three game series and a single away game with Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. They return home to finish the two game set with the Rafters on Sunday July 21st at 5:05 PM. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Gill Bobblehead.
