Bullfrogs Walk over Rafters in Victory

The Bullfrogs walked 15 times and collected 15 hits in a 20-5 victory over Wisconsin Rapids on Monday.

Wisconsin Rapids got on the board early on, batting through the order in the second inning. Erik Payne led off the scoring with a two run home run to left field with Robbie Coman on base for a 2-0 lead. Once the Rafters got back to the top of the order, Taylor Stell then hit a double to bring home Cort Brinson to finish the scoring in the third for a 3-0 lead.

The lead didn't last long for the Rafters. The Bullfrogs scored their first run on a RBI single for Trevin Sonnier scoring Ryan Drobny. It was the first of five RBI on the night for Sonnier. The Bullfrogs closed out the scoring in the second inning with a grand slam from Bryant Burleson.

Green Bay never looked back scoring two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 10-5 lead.

The Bullfrogs then went on to score four runs in the sixth inning. The runs were driven in by Cabe Reiten, Ryan Matranga, Trevin Sonnier and Jimmy Coady, And the Bullfrogs left the frame with a 14-5 lead.

Rafter pitching stole the headlines late in the game, however. Wisconsin Rapids walked 15 batters on the night, with six of those walks coming in the six-run seventh inning.

Sonnier finished his night 5 for 5 with two runs, and five RBI. After four scorless innings in relief from Marshall Zahn and Austin Franzen, position player Bryant Burleson pitched a clean ninth to end the four game homestand.

The win went to Zahn (1-0), and the loss went to Griffin Glaude (0-3).
