Willmar Stingers News Release

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Colin Poche bewildered the St. Cloud Rox over the course of seven scoreless innings, Zack Tillery added a key insurance run in the top of the 9th and Bret Dahlson cut a rally short to give the Stingers a 4-3 victory on the road. Poche (Arkansas) finally picked up a victory after the Willmar offense had been quiet over his last two outings. The hard-throwing lefty gave up only three hits, two of which went for infield singles, and improved his record to 3-2. Poche, a 2013 Northwoods League all-star, struck out seven and lowered his ERA to an impeccable 1.55.

The game began favorably for the Stingers as they plated a run in each of the first two frames. Alec Solé (St. Louis) led off the game by drawing a walk then scoring on a sacrifice fly by Marc Flores. In the second inning, Logan Moon crushed a ball to left for his third home run of the season. St. Cloud left fielder Eric Loxtercamp could only look up plaintively as the ball soared out of Joe Faber Field.

The middle portion of the game was a breeze for the Stingers as Poche rolled through the Rox order. Neither team was able to score until the top of the 7th inning when the Stingers grabbed a 3-0 lead on a single to right that rolled away from the Rox outfielder, allowing Tillery (Florida Gulf coast) to score. Tillery then wrapped up the Willmar scoring for the game with a no-doubt blast to left that once again sailed over the head of Rox' outfielder Loxtercamp and earned Tillery the CDI player of the game.

Bret Dahlson encountered some difficulties in the ninth as the first two St. Cloud batters recorded singles. Eventually, the Rox loaded the bases and had the tying run at third, but Dahslon finished the game with a pair of strikeouts, including a knee-buckling curveball that caught 2013 NWL all-star Adam Martin looking.
