St. Cloud Battles with Willmar, Falls to Stingers in the Playoffs

Willmar, MN - St. Cloud rallied late in the ninth inning, but fell to Willmar by a score of 3-2 at Bill Taunton Stadium. The Rox close the 2019 season with a record of 43-30 and finish as champions of the second half of the Great Plains West Division.
After falling behind 1-0 in the fifth inning, the Rox quickly responded. With two outs and the bases empty, Gus Steiger (South Dakota State) crushed a triple off of the center field wall. Jordan Barth (Augustana) singled to left field in the next at-bat and tied the game at one in the sixth inning.
Down 3-1 in the eighth inning, the Rox loaded the bases. Ben Carew (Kent State) scored off of a ground ball from Garett Delano (Brown).
Needing a run to tie in the ninth inning, Daniel Montgomery Jr. (Southwestern) drew a two-out walk. Carew followed with a single to center field, moving Montgomery to third base. The rally fell just short.
