Tri-City Americans News Release
Kennewick, WA- The Spokane Chiefs (8-7-2-1, 19 pts) came into the Toyota Center and sent the 4,618 fans in the building home with a sour taste, as the Chiefs scored four goals in the second period to defeat the Tri-City Americans (6-10-1-0, 13 pts) 8-1 on Saturday Night.
Spokane got on the board first as Evan Fiala fired a shot, deflecting off an Americans' defenseman and into the net for a 1-0 lead. The Americans had the 11-8 shot advantage, but the Chiefs had the lead after the first period.
Early in the second, Curtis Miske tallied a goal to put Spokane up 2-0. The Chiefs increased the lead four minutes later, with Dominic Zwerger creating a turnover, earning a breakaway chance which he finished off by slipping the puck under Evan Sarthou's right pad. Tri-City answered shortly after on the power play, as Brian Williams found Parker Bowles, firing the puck into a wide open net to cut the lead to 3-1. Spokane replied with another goal, this time from Jacob Cardiff, pushing the lead to 4-1. Adam Helewka joined the scoring party late in the second, increasing the lead to 5-1 after two periods.
Early in the third, Nik Andersen found twine, making it 6-1 Chiefs. Andersen added another goal midway through the period, with the scoring capped off by Keanu Yamamoto late in the third to put the icing on the victory cake for Spokane.
Tri-City capitalized on 1-of-3 power play chances and recorded 12 penalty minutes. Spokane wasn't able to score with four man advantage opportunities and spent 13 minutes in the penalty box.
Evan Sarthou started the game for Tri-City and made 24 saves in the loss before Nicholas Sanders came in and made four saves to finish the game. Matt Berlin stopped 25 shots in the win.
Tri-City has some time to recover and prepare for its next challenge this Wednesday, Nov. 11, against the Portland Winterhawks. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. at the Toyota Center. Tri-City lost the last meeting between the two teams, 5-2, at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
