Regina Pats News Release

The Pats put forward a much more complete effort in the first period than last night's game in Swift Current. The Blue and White held the early momentum, but the Royals would strike first. Immediately after Jake Elmer hit the cross-bar on a great rush, Jared Dmytriw got free to the right side of the slot and beat Tyler Brown along the ice. Jared Freadrich tied the game when his shot from the point hit the skate of Joe Hicketts and redirected past Griffen Outhouse. Victoria retook the lead before the end of the frame, using a Jack Walker powerplay goal to carry a 2-1 advantage to the break.

The Royals continued to add to their lead early in the second period when Tyler Thompson's snap shot found its way to the back of the net for a 3-1 Victoria lead. That would end Tyler Brown's night as rookie Jordan Hollett came into the game. The Pats' 2014 first round pick turned aside 13 of the 14 shots he faced. The only one to get behind him was off a Jack Walker steal and the 19-year old deked for a quick five-hole goal and 4-1 Royals lead after forty.

Victoria closed out their six game sweep of the East Division by tacking on two more markers in the final frame. Matthew Philips picked up the puck on his own side of centre and weaved his way by a couple of Pats before lifting a back-hand to the top corner of the net. When a post whistle scrum resulted in a Victoria powerplay, Tyler Thompson cashed in to notch his second of the game, leaving the score at 6-1 in favour of the visitors.

Quick Hits - Jared Freadrich scored his first WHL goal. - Jordan Hollett made his first appearance of the season and stopped 26 of 29 shots in relief. - Game attendance was 4180.

What's Next? The Pats stay at home next weekend to take on a pair of Central Division foes in the Red Deer Rebels (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Lethbridge Hurricanes (Sunday, 4 p.m.). Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.ca, the Brandt Centre Box Office and Safeway locations throughout Regina.
