Spitters One Win Away from Clinching Division

Rockford, IL - The Traverse City Pit Spitters win their third straight, improving to a 21-11 record after a 5-4 win over the Rockford Rivets.

Jack Crighton got the offense going in the top of the first inning for the Pit Spitters, as he hit a lead off double. After a Parker Brosius groundout to advance Crighton, Glenn Miller hit a sacrifice flyout to give the Pit Spitters their first lead of the game 1-0. Brosius kicked the top of the second inning off with a walk, followed by a stolen base to set himself up in scoring position. Colin Summerhill singled to center bringing around Brosius to extend the Pit Spitters lead to 2-0. Looking to add more insurance runs heading into the later part of the game, Camden Traficante singled to right field with two outs. Jack Crighton followed up Traficante's single with a double of his own to put runners on second and third. Brosius came through, hitting a single up the middle bringing around two runners to make it a 4-0 game. The Rivets offense woke up in the bottom of the sixth inning as Jack Scheri drew a leadoff walk. Matthew Mebane and Aaron Harper hit back-to-back singles bringing around Scheri to make it 4-1. After a dropped third strike that got away from catcher Tyler Minnick, Matthew Mebane came in cutting into the Pit Spitters lead 4-2. Braden Duhon followed the wild pitch up with a groundout to second base, bringing across another run to make it 4-3. Dustin Allen completed the comeback with a double to left field bringing around Bradley White to make it 4-4. Andrew Mannelly and Cooper Erikson drew back-to-back walks with one out in the top of the seventh. Traficante doubled to right field to bring around Mannelly to take back the lead 5-4.

The Pit Spitters improve to 20-11 on the season, as the Rivets drop to 18-13. Pit Spitters starting pitcher, Nick Powers threw four innings of shutout ball, giving up four hits, four walks, and struck out four. Anthony Ramirez came in for relief, throwing an inning and a third giving up four runs on three hits, walking two while striking out four. Evan Waters threw a third of an inning, giving up a hit and a walk. Hayden Jactzak came in and threw two and a third innings, giving up a hit, walk, and struck out three, as well as earning the win. Aaron Forrest threw an inning of shutout ball earning his second save of the season.
