Green Bay Rockers News Release
Ashwaubenon, Wis.- The Rockers lost Friday night's matchup 20-4 to the Lakeshore Chinooks. This matchup would open the second-to-last series of the first half for both sides.
With the loss, the Rockers are now 18-15 on the season. The team is now in third place in the Great Lakes West division but remains just one and a half games back of first place.
This game was highlighted by the long ball for both sides. Green Bay hit two home runs during the contest, but Lakeshore would leave the yard six times throughout the course of the game where they totaled 13 hits.
Starting on the hill for the Rockers was Cooper Dossett (Arkansas). He would throw three innings on the hill where he struck out five batters and allowed three earned runs.
The first run of the game wouldn't come until the bottom of the third inning. The Rockers were able to strike first off the bat of Kendal Ewell (Kentucky), who hit a solo home run to give Green Bay a 1-0 lead.
Lakeshore would then score the next eleven runs of the game, which came on a trio of home runs. The Chinooks would do this by completing the home run cycle, hitting a solo homer, two-run, three-run home run, and a grand slam in the first six innings.
Green Bay would get two runs back in the bottom half of the sixth inning, where catcher Carlos Hernandez (Anderson) would hit a home run with two outs. Jojo Jackson (Georgia State) would then score on a Jack Holman (UCLA) RBI single to make it an 11-3 game.
Green Bay would get one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Shortstop Blake Wilson (Kansas State) would drive in Ewell, who led off the inning with a triple, on a sac fly. The Rockers trailed 12-4 after seven innings.
Lakeshore would get eight more runs in the top of the eighth inning. For the Chinooks, Adam Cootway (UW-Whitewater) and Joseph Spence (Notre Dame) hit their second home runs of the night to fuel the offensive effort this inning. It would be the second grand slam of the evening for Spence.
Up next for the Rockers is the second game of the series against Lakeshore. It will be held at Moonlight Graham Field in Mequon, WI. The Rockers will then finish up the first half with a series in Madison against the Mallards.
