March 6, 2019 - NBA G League (G League)
South Bay Lakers News Release
EL SEGUNDO- The South Bay Lakers struggled shooting the ball and ultimately fell to the Northern Arizona Suns, 114-100, on Tuesday night. Scott Machado exploded for a season-high 34 points, including 21 in the fourth quarter alone, but it wasn't enough for the Lakers (16-26) to come away with the win. Hollis Thompson powered the Suns with 27 points and 11 rebounds.
Jeffrey Carroll controlled the tempo in the first quarter with 10 early points, but 13 points from Thompson gave the Suns a 31-30 lead after one. South Bay took a one-point lead into the half, 53-52, as Andre Ingram and Jemerrio Jones combined for 12 points in the second.
The Suns took an 82-73 lead after three, as Retin Obasohan and Thompson scored eight apiece in the third quarter. Machado put the team on his back in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 of South Bay's 27 points, but the Suns were able to hold on to the lead and grab the win.
Thompson's double-double paced the Suns while Obasohan added 24 points, five rebounds, nine assists and three steals. George King scored 15 points and Aaron Epps finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Shawndre Jones (13 points) and Trayvon Palmer (12 points) scored in double figures off the bench.
Machado continued his great play with his 34 points and nine assists, but the Lakers shot only 41.2 percent from the field and 29 percent from three-point range. Justin Harper finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Jones tallied 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and three blocks. Carroll and Ingram each scored 10 points and Spencer Hawes made his NBA G League debut with four points, three rebounds, four assists, one steal and two blocks.
South Bay finishes off their three-game homestand with a matchup against the Agua Caliente Clippers on Thursday, March 7 at 7:00pm PT from the UCLA Health Training Center.
