South Bay Lakers News Release

EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers played their fourth game of the season against the Ontario Clippers as they fell, 105-112, on Thursday night. Jay Huff led the Lakers (2-2) in scoring with 30 points. Nate Darling led the way for the Clippers (3-1), scoring 24 points.

The first half of the opening quarter started quite slow in the rematch between these two teams. After the first seven minutes of the game, only fifteen combined points had been scored. Devin Cannady and L.J. Figueroa paced the Lakers in the quarter, scoring six and five points respectively. For the Clippers, starting point guard Jason Preston led them in first quarter scoring with six points. The Lakers trailed 17-25 after the first, their lowest scoring quarter of the season. Both teams made runs in the second frame, the Clippers extended their lead to as many as 14, the Lakers cut it to as little as six before the Clippers built it back up to 19, seeing the Lakers go into the half down 63-44.

Quarter three provided much of the same with South Bay continuing to compete, but were unable to finish possessions with rebounds, conceding nine offensive rebounds in the third quarter alone. Brandon Boston Jr. came alive in the third quarter, putting up seven points while Darling and Xavier Moon both added six. The Clippers took an 88-68 advantage into the final period.

The fourth quarter was all about Huff and Scotty Pippen Jr. The pairing combined for 29 points in a quarter the Lakers won by 13. However, the Clipper's lead was just too much to overcome as the game came to a close at 105-112.

Huff put together a final line of 30 points, six rebounds, four blocks, and three assists. Scotty Pippen Jr. added 24 points while L.J. Figueroa added 14 of his own. For the Clippers, Darling scored 24 points, including four three-pointers. Moussa Diabate had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Brandon Boston Jr. finished with 19 points.

South Bay's next game will be their first on the road this season as they take on the Stockton Kings on Thursday, November 17 at 7:00pm from the Stockton Arena.
