
South Bay Drops Road Contest in Stockton

STOCKTON, CA - The South Bay Lakers fought until the end but ultimately fell to the Stockton Kings, 122-113, on Thursday night. Justin Harper and Scott Machado each scored 23 points for the Lakers (15-25), but it wasn't enough to grab the win. Troy Williams led the Kings (26-15) with 24 points off the bench.
The Kings took an early 10-point lead, 34-24, behind 12 first quarter points from Williams. Derrick Griffin Jr. paced the Lakers in the first with six points in only his second start of the season. Stockton took a 64-47 lead into the half as Reggie Hearn scored nine points in the second quarter. Jeffrey Carroll scored eight in the second and finished with 12 first half points.
Stockton held a 93-74 lead going into the final quarter despite 12 points in the frame from Johnathan Williams. South Bay outscored the Kings by 10 in the fourth quarter, led by 12 points from Machado, but Cody Demps and Matt Jones combined for 20 points to secure the win for Stockton.
A game-high 24 from Williams paced the Kings while Demps (22 points) and Jones (19 points) contributed to the scoring load for Stockton. Hearn and Wenyen Gabriel scored 15 points apiece and Daniel Ochefu also finished in double figures with 13 points.
Solid performances from Harper (23 points, nine rebounds) and Machado (23 points, eight assists) led the Lakers and Carroll added 19 points and four steals off the bench. Williams finished the game with 16 points and Jemerrio Jones did some of everything with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks.
South Bay returns home for a three-game homestand beginning with a matchup against the Salt Lake City Stars on Saturday, March 2 at 5:00pm PT from the UCLA Health Training Center.
