
South Bay Drops Regular Season Finale in Austin

CEDAR PARK, TX - The South Bay Lakers fell to the Austin Spurs, 140-128, in the final game of the regular season on Saturday night. Gary Payton II put together his finest performance as a Laker with 30 points, seven rebounds, nine assists, two steals and two blocks, but South Bay (28-22) could not secure the victory. Derrick White paced the Spurs (32-18) with 31 points and four steals.
Thomas Bryant had a great opening quarter, hitting 6-of-7 from the field for 14 early points, but the Spurs took a 39-31 lead into the second behind 10 points from Jaron Blossomgame. The Spurs got to the line in the second quarter, shooting 11-12 from the stripe, as they went into the half with a 79-68 lead. James Southerland scored 11 points in the second quarter for South Bay to keep his team close.
Austin extended their lead in the third quarter, 110-94, as White led his team with seven points in the period, while Payton II did the same for South Bay. Payton II poured in 13 points in the fourth and Bryant added 10, but White scored 13 of his own as Austin put away the win.
White's 31 points led Austin, as Blossomgame notched a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Olivier Hanlan led the second unit with 18 points and Darrun Hilliard finished with 17 points in the starting lineup. Jordan Green (15 points) and Tucker Haymond (14 points) finished in double figures while Amida Brimah grabbed 11 boards and had three blocks for Austin.
Payton II's all-around performance led the Lakers and Bryant added 29 points and three blocks. Andre Ingram finished with 22 points and Southerland tallied 19 as the only other Lakers to finish in double figures. South Bay will open the postseason on the road as they await their opponent.
