AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Spurs (32-18), presented by SWBC, defeated the South Bay Lakers 140-128 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park Saturday night. The Spurs closed out the season in front of a crowd of over 5,800 fans and ended the regular season as the Southwest Division Champions and placing first in the Western Conference.
Derrick White, on assignment from San Antonio, led the team with 31 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 34 minutes. Rookie Jaron Blossomgame notched his 14th double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds in 34 minutes.
Austin got off to an early lead in the first quarter with all five starters scoring in the first eight minutes. A buzzer beating three by Jordan Green gave the Spurs an eight point lead to end the quarter 39-21. The Spurs shot 68 percent from the field in the first half to give the Spurs a double-digit halftime lead of 79-68. In the second half Austin went on a late 18-5 run in the third quarter to take an 18 point lead. Despite a 19-9 run by the Lakers in the fourth quarter, the Spurs were able to sustain their double-digit lead to win the game.
For the Lakers (28-22), Gary Payton II led the team with 30 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds in 35 minutes, while Thomas Bryant contributed with 29 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds in 37 minutes.
