Hustle Rout South Bay in Home Finale
March 24, 2018 - NBA G League (G League)
Memphis Hustle News Release
The Memphis Hustle finished its home schedule with a 141-118 rout of the South Bay Lakers Friday night at Landers Center. South Bay entered the evening with possession of the second seed in the Western Conference playoff race (tied for the second best record) after Memphis took down the first place Austin Spurs Tuesday night.
It was another spectacular night on offense for the Hustle as the team set a new franchise high for points in a game, a mark that was previously set in last Wednesday's win against Sioux Falls (140). Additionally, Memphis set new franchise highs for field goal percentage (.600) and three-point percentage (.548).
The Hustle gradually grew its lead to 13 (36-23) by the end of the opening frame, but blew the game open with a 20-3 run to start the second quarter and boost the lead to 32 (58-26) early in the second quarter. The Lakers would get as close as 19 the rest of the evening.
Four Hustle players reached the 20-point plateau, including two off the bench. Omari Johnson led the team in scoring for the 12th time this season (26 points, 10-14 FG, 6-9 3P). J.J. Frazier had his best outing of the season with 23 points and seven rebounds on 9-of-14 shooting. Myke Henry (23 points) and Shaquille Thomas (20 points) each had big nights off the bench. Dusty Hannahs (18 points), Jeremy Morgan (12 points) and Chance Comanche (12 points) also reached double figures.
Lakers assignee Ivica Zubac led the South Bay effort with 24 points and eight rebounds. V.J. Beachem had 17 points off the bench. Scott Machado (15 points, 11 assists) recorded his 15th double-double of the season. Lakers assignee Thomas Bryant (14 points) and Demarcus Holland (10 points) also had double digit performances.
