May 31, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. -Following a 1-0 home win over New York Red Bulls on Saturday, Seattle Sounders FC looks to stay atop the Western Conference against the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, May 31 on the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
Sounders FC announced that it has signed Tacoma Defiance defender Travian Sousa to a short-term agreement ahead of Wednesday's match. A club may sign a player, age 25 or younger during the league season, from its affiliate (MLS NEXT Pro) to a maximum of four short-term agreements (up to four-day contracts) each season (maximum of 16 days). An individual player may be included on up to four MLS league season match rosters each season, however, that player may appear in no more than two MLS league season matches. An individual player may appear in any number of non-league games during the terms of his four short-term agreements.
Seattle currently sits in first place in the Western Conference with 26 points through 15 matches, with San Jose in fifth place in the Western Conference with 19 points. The Rave Green have played to a 15-12-9 regular season advantage against the Earthquakes. Wednesday's match will mark the 37th regular-season meeting between the two sides, the most for Seattle against any opponent in MLS.
Following Wednesday's match, the Rave Green face a quick turnaround as it takes on arch rival Portland Timbers on Saturday, June 3 at Lumen Field (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV - Watch Free, FOX, 93.3 KJR FM, Sirius XM FC, El Rey 1360 AM). The match is part of a Seattle-Portland doubleheader featuring both cities' topflight men's and women's soccer teams at Lumen Field, with a single ticket providing access to the full day. Following Sounders FC's match at 1:30 p.m. PT, OL Reign hosts the Portland Thorns at 5:00 p.m. PT.
