Bridgeport Islanders News Release

THE WEEK THAT WAS... The Bridgeport Sound Tigers played a stretch of four games in five days this week around the Thanksgiving holiday, emerging with points in all four games and a 2-0-1-1 record. The week was bookended with impressive efforts from rookie goaltender Kevin Poulin, and sandwiched in between was a Sound Tigers comeback against a bitter rival that will be remembered for years to come.

PROVIDENCE 3, SOUND TIGERS 2 (OT)... The Sound Tigers began play this week on Wednesday night at home against the Providence Bruins, and for the second time in less than two weeks the two teams would need overtime to decide the outcome. Each team would score a power play goal in regulation, including Jon Landry who scored his first goal as a Sound Tiger to tie the game 1-1 midway through the second period. The score stayed that way until the extra session when Jamie Arniel fired a shot past Kevin Poulin with 1:54 remaining in OT to give the P-Bruins a 2-1 win.

SOUND TIGERS 4, HARTFORD 3 (SO)... On Friday night the Sound Tigers hosted the Hartford Wolf Pack in their final game before changing their name to the Connecticut Whale. It appeared that the Wolf Pack would retire their name with a win as they lead 3-0 midway through the third period. However, defenseman Wes O'Neill and the Sound Tigers had other plans. O'Neill scored his first goal as a Sound Tiger on a penalty shot with 6:42 left to start the comeback, then notched his second of the game with 1:05 remaining to tie the game. Mikko Koskinen stopped all seven Hartford shooters, and Jeremy Colliton's attempt trickled through Chad Johnson's pads to complete the improbable comeback as the Sound Tigers beat the Wolf Pack one last time 4-3.

CONNECTICUT 3, SOUND TIGERS 2 (SO)... The Sound Tigers traveled to XL Center to face the same players and coaches from the previous night, but saw a different crest on their jerseys as Hartford became the Connecticut Whale on Saturday night. For the second straight game, a Sound Tigers' defenseman forced overtime as Anton Klementyev scored with 2:12 remaining in regulation to tie the game at two. Nathan Lawson made a season-high 43 saves in regulation and overtime to send the game to a shootout. However, all four Sound Tigers shooters were stopped and Jeremy Williams clinched the win with a goal in the fifth round to give the Whale a 3=2D2 win.

SOUND TIGERS 3, NORFOLK 0...

The Norfolk Admirals came to the Arena at Harbor Yard for the second time in just over two weeks on Sunday. The Sound Tigers defeated Norfolk 3-2 on an overtime game-winner from Mark Wotton on Nov. 13. The result was the same this Sunday without the drama of their first encounter. David Ullstrom and Chris Blight each recorded a goal and an assist, and Kevin Poulin stopped all 40 shots he faced for his second shutout in a week's time to give the Sound Tigers a 3-0 win.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK ‚¬" KEVIN POULIN...

Rookie goaltender Kevin Poulin earns Sound Tigers Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week. The Sound Tigers rookie netminder continues to turn heads around the AHL. Poulin followed up his first pro shutout last Sunday vs. Portland with two more superb performances this week. Poulin made 30 saves in a 2-1 OT loss to the Providence Bruins on Wednesday night, then stopped all 40 shots he faced Sunday afternoon to shutout the Norfolk Admirals 3=2D0, handing Norfolk their first shutout of the season. On the week, Poulin stopped 70 of 72 shots for a .972 save percentage. His GAA now stands at a stingy 1.98 on the season, and the Montreal native has given up two goals in his last 185:32 in net. Poulin now ranks seventh in the league in GAA and sixth in SV%.

ISLANDERS SIGN COLLITON TO TWO-WAY DEAL

... The New York Islanders announced today that forward Jeremy Colliton has been signed to a one year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract.
