Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators announced today that at their home games Dec. 10 versus the Albany Devils and Dec. 11 versus the Rochester Americans, forward Cody Bass and the B-Sens wives and girlfriends will hold special fundraisers to honor the memory of Daron Richardson.
Ottawa Senators' assistant coach Luke Richardson and his family experienced a great loss this month, as their 14-year-old daughter Daron died after trying to commit suicide in the family home. Bass, a close friend of the Richardson family, was deeply affected by the tragedy.
Bass has enlisted the support of the Binghamton Senators wives and girlfriends as well as members of the Binghamton community for a pair of special fundraisers in which donations will be made in memory of Daron.
Saturday, Dec. 11 as the B-Sens host Rochester, a silent auction organized by Bass will be held. Fans have the opportunity to bid on a variety of items at auction tables located on the main concourse of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena through the second intermission of the game. Money raised in the auction will be donated to the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health and the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier.
Items to be auctioned off include:
* 2009-10 Cody Bass specialty Saint Patrick's Day jersey
* Team signed platter courtesy of the ClayGround in Vestal, N.Y.
* Full-year, unlimited membership to CNY MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)
* Autographed rock memorabilia
* Original "Hope" painting created at the Magic Paintbrush Project's 2008-09 Binghamton Senators Paint with the Players event
* Mini computer with custom cover courtesy of Red Barn Computers in Binghamton
Also that weekend, the wives and girlfriends of the Binghamton Senators will be selling candy canes adorned with gift tags autographed by B-Sens players. Candy canes can be purchased for $2 at the wives' table located on the main concourse of the arena. All proceeds from the candy cane sales will be donated in Daron Richardson's name to the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health Youth Program.
"The teen suicide rate in the United States and Canada is going up every year. The Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier and the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health are doing their best to assist teens who are in need of help," explained Bass.
"Every dollar donated through these events next weekend is helping save a life here in Binghamton or up in Ottawa. Knowing that we are going to be able to make that type of impact is an amazing feeling."
Tickets to the Dec. 10 and 11 home games are $17.75 for side seating, $16.75 for end seating. Fans can purchase tickets at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or in person at the Binghamton Senators' executive office or the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office.
