Bridgeport Islanders News Release

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers will play four games in five days this week as they continue their quest for a spot in the Calder Cup playoffs. The Sound Tigers, after going 2-1 last week, are in fourth place and have a two point lead on Albany in the race for the East Division's fourth and final playoff spot. The Sound Tigers have 11 remaining regular season games - five of them on home ice.

Weekly recap: The Sound Tigers beat Binghamton 6-2 in Broome County, N.Y. on Friday night. Bridgeport had contributions from six different goal scorers, including Jamie Johnson (who also had three assists) and Stephen Wood who netted his first Sound Tiger goal. The Sound Tigers split a pair of home games against the Portland Pirates during the weekend. Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz turned aside 36 shots and Rick Berry and Masi Marjamaki scored just 1:44 apart in the first period of Saturday's 2-0 win. On Sunday, the Pirates bounced back and beat the Sound Tigers 5-2 to salvage a split of the four game season series.

The week ahead: The Sound Tigers play back-to-back games against the Hartford Wolf Pack - Wednesday morning in Hartford and Friday night in Bridgeport (7:30 p.m.). After visiting the Hershey Bears on Saturday, the Sound Tigers return to the Arena at Harbor Yard to host the Albany River Rats Sunday at 4 p.m.

In the standings: The Sound Tigers have a record of 33-30-1-5. The Sound Tigers and River Rats will face-off twice in the remaining three weeks of the season. Division rivals Hershey, Norfolk and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, this week, became the first American Hockey League teams to qualify for the playoffs.

Through the turnstiles: The Sound Tigers drew 6,718 fans on Saturday and 6,330 on Sunday. Scout groups attended the game Saturday, skated on Sound Tiger ice and spent the night at the Arena at Harbor Yard during the annual Sound Tigers' Scout Sleepover.
