PROVIDENCE, RI - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, tied the Providence Bruins 1-1 on the road Saturday and are 3-0-1 on a five-game road trip that will end tomorrow.

The teams played a scoreless first period despite eight power plays including one five-on-three advantage apiece and three different four-on-four situations. At one point, the teams skated 7:02 straight without playing at full-and-equal strength as five different penalties overlapped.

Ironically enough it was the last of the opening period's power plays that lead to the game's first goal, but it came 1:16 into the second period as the advantage carried into the intermission. Providence took the lead when Carl Corazzini scored for the fifth time this season, and the third time in two nights, when he tapped a loose puck home to make it 1-0. Former Sound Tiger Pat Leahy and Ted Donato assisted on the goal.

The Sound Tigers tied the score at 1-1 when former P-Bruin Eric Manlow scored his first goal of the season with 8:36 left in the middle frame. Jeff Hamilton and Alain Nasreddine, who was playing his first game of the season after sitting out with a back injury, assisted on the equalizer.

For the second game in a row the Sound Tigers took 14 third-period shots but went to overtime tied at 1-1. Both teams had numerous chances to win the game in the extra session, but Sound Tigers Goaltender Dieter Kochan and Providence Netminder Hannu Toivonen continued their strong efforts through the end of the contest.

The Sound Tigers were 0 for 8 on the power play and had a 36-27 shots on goal advantage. Providence was 1 for 4 on the advantage. Toivonen made 35 saves to earn the first star of the game while Kochan had 26 stops for the Sound Tigers. Corazzini was the second star of the game. Manlow was the third star.

The Sound Tigers will finish the stretch of five straight road games when they visit the Philadelphia Phantoms tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. Tomorrow's game will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com beginning at 5:45 p.m.

The Sound Tigers' next home game at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard will be on Veterans' Day, this Tuesday, November 11th, when they host the Norfolk Admirals at 4:05 p.m. on "Military Appreciation Day" with free tickets for all military personnel who wear their uniform or show proper identification at the Harbor Yard box office on the day of the game, as well as special ticket prices for friends and family.
