Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Paul Szczechura netted a goal in his Admirals debut, but the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (11-26-1-3) scored three unanswered goals to defeat the Norfolk Admirals (11-26-1-3) 3-2 on Wednesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.
After a scoreless opening period, the Admirals got on the board first at 4:48 of the second period. Marek Kvapil entered the zone along the right wing and sent a shot that Bridgeport goaltender Mike Morrison kicked out with his right leg. The rebound went to Rob Klinkhammer, who immediately shot it past Morrison for his sixth goal of the season.
The Norfolk lead doubled less than two minutes later. Andy Rogers sent a shot from the point that Morrison stopped. After one rebound shot by Norm Milley, Szczechura roofed a shot for his first Admirals goal at 6:24 of the second period.
The Sound Tigers tied the game with two goals in the latter half of the second period. Bridgeport's leading scorer, Jeff Tambellini, sent a shot from the high slot through traffic and past the glove of Admirals goaltender Marc Denis at 14:10. As time expired in the period, Ben Walter sent a shot past Denis that crossed the goal line just before the buzzer for a power play goal at 20:00.
Bridgeport took the lead early in the third period. A partially blocked Sound Tigers shot wound up on the tape of Tambellini on the goal line to the right of Denis. Tambellini swept a backhander past Denis at 3:31.
Marc Denis (23 shots, 20 saves) got the loss. Mike Morrison (35 shots, 33 saves) earned the win.
Norfolk was 0-3 on the power play. Bridgeport was 1-4.
