NHL First Round Draft Pick Assigned to Wolves for Conditioning

The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned center JIM SLATER to the Chicago Wolves for conditioning.

Atlanta's first-round pick, 30th overall, in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft, SLATER has collected 29 assists and 44 points and 133 penalty minutes in 183 career NHL contests spanning three seasons with the Thrashers (2005 to 2008), which includes tallying five assists in 38 games this year. He joins center BRYAN LITTLE (12th overall, 2006) and defenseman BORIS VALABIK (10th overall, 2004) as the third NHL first-round pick on Chicago's current roster.

The 25-year-old forward made his professional debut in four games with the Wolves in 2005, logging two assists and two penalty minutes before being recalled by Atlanta. Prior to turning pro, the Petosky, Mich., native spent four years at Michigan State University (CCHA) from 2001 to 2005, where he posted 108 assists and 172 points in 157 collegiate outings.

The Wolves, who have won 10 of their last 12 games, host the Milwaukee Admirals at the Allstate Arena tonight at 7 p.m.
