SOUND TIGERS WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT

LANE LAMBERT

Assistant Coach

Born: November 18, 1964 in Melfort, Saskatchewan

Named an assistant coach with the Sound Tigers in August of 2005

What is the place where you played or coached that you liked the most? Houston. I had never lived in a warm-weather city until then, and it was so nice to go to the rink in shorts and t-shirt in the middle of witer. We also had a lot of fun with a great group of guys and won a championship!

Are you more proud of winning three championships (AHL, IHL & Switzerland) or playing several hundred games in the NHL? The championships! It doesn't matter where you are or at what level you're playing, there is no better feeling...no better sense of accomplishment than to win a championship. I'm very proud of having played in the NHL, but it takes so much commitment and hard work to win a title, and once you've done it, they can never take that away from you. There is no better compliment you can pay to a player than to say he's a "playoff performer".

What was the biggest difference in going from playing to coaching? As a coach, you can't go out on the ice and make a difference directly, but you're responsible for the whole team. As a player, you really only have to prepare yourself, but there's much more pressure on the coach because you are ultimately responsible for everyone.

What about the difference between being a head coach and being an assistant? When you're the head coach, the buck stops with you, so you have that pressure. As an assistant, you have input and responsibility, but you're more of a support for the head coach.

Tell us about Lane Lambert away from the game of hockey. Well, family is always number one, but after that, there is nothing I love more than golf. It's so challenging to hit that tiny little ball as hard as you can but make it go where you want it to go. It's a real rush!
