DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars and the Rochester Americans met for their only regular season game at Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday night. Despite out-shooting the Americans 40-28, the Stars dropped a 5-4 decision to the upstate New York-based team.
Forward Mathias Tjarnqvist put the Stars ahead just 1:47 into the first period. The Swede's 15th goal of the season is now the quickest goal scored by the Stars to open a game. Daniel Paille evened the score with a shorthanded goal at 8:02 of the first. The shorthanded goal was the ninth such goal scored against Iowa. Just :24 second later, Junior Lessard fired-home a one-timer in the slot to put the Stars ahead 2-1. It was his team-leading 18th goal of the season. Three minutes later, Rochester evened the score at two. Paille's second of the game, put Rochester ahead 3-2 going into the first intermission.
Clarke MacArthur gave Rochester a two-goal lead early in the second. Krys Barch's fifth of the season pulled Iowa
to within one when he redirected a Mario Scalzo shot from the blueline. David Oliver evened the scored at four when his wrist-shot from the right circle snuck past Rochester goalie Michael Leighton. Defenseman Jeff Jillson scored the game-winning goal at 8:45 on the power-play.
Defenseman Dan Jancevski had his four-game points-streak snapped. The Stars Captain posted five assists in that span. Goaltender Dan Ellis faced 28 shots in the loss.

NEXT GAMES: The Stars travel to Milwaukee for a 7:00 game Wednesday night against the Admirals. Iowa then plays in Peoria on Friday night at 7:30 PM before returning home to host the Manitoba Moose on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game will see the first 5,000 fans receive a Dan Jancevski Bobblehead prior to the 7:05 PM start. Sunday's game will begin at 5:05 PM. Doors open for all games, one-hour before face-off.
