Norfolk Admirals News Release

Matt Keith's second goal of the night in the third period was the difference in the game, as the Admirals defeated the Monarchs 3-2 in Manchester on Tuesday night.

Norfolk kept the puck in the Manchester end in the opening period, peppering goaltender Adam Hauser with 19 shots in the process. One of them founds its way into the cage 5:52 into the contest. Jason Morgan found the puck on the end boards to the right of Hauser. While facing the glass, Morgan sent a backhanded pass to Matt Keith, who was on the top of the crease. Keith re-directed the pass behind Hauser stick side. Corey Crawford stopped all nine Manchester shots, and the Admirals took a 1-0 lead into the locker room after twenty minutes.

Brandon Rogers doubled Norfolk's lead with his first professional goal 2:45 into the second. After Hauser left a big rebound off an Eric Meloche shot from the slot, Rogers skated in from his defensive position to the top of the left circle. He teed up a shot that beat the goalie glove side along the ice to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead. The Monarchs got on the board a couple of minutes later, as Matt Ryan scored off a rebound at 4:09. Consecutive Norfolk penalties gave Manchester a five-on-three advantage midway through the second stanza. Jeff Tambellini cashed in with a one-timer from the point at 9:39 that knotted the score at two goals apiece. The Monarchs had the advantage in shots 14-6 in the middle period, and the teams headed off the ice tied 2-2 after two periods.

Manchester took seven minor penalties in the third period, and Norfolk took advantage midway through the final frame. Martin St. Pierre sent the puck from behind the goal line toward the slot. The puck deflected off a Monarch defender's skate to Keith, who sent a wrist shot through a screen into the top corner of the net blocker side at 11:35. The Admirals' defense - led by Crawford in net - prevented any of Manchester's nine third-period shots from turning into goals as Norfolk won the game 3-2.

Corey Crawford got the win stopping 30 of 32 shots. Adam Hauser made 33 saves on 36 Norfolk shots but picked up the loss.

The Admirals were 1-11 on the power play. Manchester was 1-6.
