Montoya joins Pack

New York, February 28, 2006 -- New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that goaltender Al Montoya has been reassigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Montoya, 21, has posted an 18-5-1 record in 28 games with Hartford (AHL) this season, along with a 2.53 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. The 6-2, 201-pound native of Chicago, Illinois also appeared in the 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic with Planet USA on January 31 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. After suffering a broken finger in practice on November 8, the rookie out of the University of Michigan was assigned to Charlotte of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), and appeared in two games with the Checkers, posting a 1-1-0 record, along with a 3.92 goals against average and a .875 save percentage.

From today's practice, all players on the Rangers roster participated other than Jaromir Jagr (rest), Darius Kasparaitis (toe, day-to-day), Henrik Lundqvist, Ville Nieminen, Petr Prucha (knee) and Fedor Tyutin (travel). Blair Betts skated with the team, but remains sidelined day-to-day with a grade 3 sprain of the MCL in his left knee. Petr Prucha continued his rehab off-ice and remains out with a second degree sprain of the MCL in his right knee. Tomorrow's practice is scheduled for 10:30AM at the MSG Training Center.
