
Sound Tigers Sign Ed Campbell

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced the signing of veteran defenseman Ed Campbell to a professional tryout contract. Campbell, 30, joins his older brother, Jim, on the Sound Tigers roster and is expected to be in the lineup when the team visits the Hartford Wolf Pack tonight at 7:35 p.m.
Campbell had posted one assist and ten penalty minutes in 12 games with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals and also appeared in one game with the AHL's Hershey Bears this season. The 6'2'' 210-pounder from Worcester, Massachusetts played all of last season with the AHL's Providence Bruins notching one goal, eight assists, nine points and 92 penalty minutes in 67 games.
Campbell has played his entire professional career in either the AHL or the International Hockey League. He skated for the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins in 2002-03, Worcester IceCats from 2000 through 2002, Hartford for parts of the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons and the Binghamton Rangers as a rookie in 1996-97, as well as the IHL's Orlando Solar Bears in 1999-2000 and Fort Wayne Komets for parts of the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons. Campbell played three years of college hockey, 1993-96, with the University of Massachusetts ¬" Lowell River Hawks of Hockey East and one season of junior, 1992-93, with the United States Hockey League's Omaha Lancers.
The New York Rangers selected Campbell in the eighth round, with the 190th overall pick, of the 1993 NHL draft.
Following tonight's game in Hartford, the Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of seven straight road games by visiting the Lowell Lock Monsters tomorrow at 4 p.m. Both games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com. Tomorrow's game will also be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM beginning at 3:45 p.m.
