Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ON - Despite goaltender Yann Danis making 45 saves on 46 shots and only allowing one goal during regulation and overtime, the Hamilton Bulldogs lost 2-1 in a shootout at Copps Coliseum on Friday night.

Danis made many key saves in the contest. At the top of the list was possibly the save of the year in the first period, when Alexei Smirnov had a wide open net, but was stymied by the paddle of Danis' goal stick in mid air.

After battling to a scoreless first period and most of the second period, the Bulldogs broke the stalemate on their fourth power play of the game at 18:08 of the second. Dan Jancevski took a perfect Corey Locke cross-ice pass and roofed it over the shoulder of Ilya Bryzgalov. Trevor Daley picked up the other assist on Jancevski's third goal of the season.

Cincinnati responded at 3:04 of the third period, when Joel Stepp redirected a Cory Pecker centering pass beating Yann Danis low to the blocker side.

After overtime solved nothing the game entered into the shootout. The Mighty Ducks Chris Kunitz beat Danis with a high backhand, for the only goal of the shootout.

In goal, Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis made 45 saves and suffered his fourth shootout loss. Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 35 shots and picked up the win for the Cincinnati.

On the power play, the Bulldogs scored once on eight power play opportunities. The Mighty Ducks did not score on two chances with the man-advantage.

The Hamilton Bulldogs next home game is tomorrow evening, Saturday, January 15th at Copps Coliseum when they finish off their two game mini-series against the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and tickets are available for purchase at the Copps Coliseum Box Office, at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling Ticketmaster at (905) 527-7666.
