
Bruins win in 1,000th game

Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins returned home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence on Friday night after six consecutive road games, thrilling 11,197 fans as they skated to a 4-0 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The game was the 1,000th in franchise history, as the Bruins became just the 14th team in the 69-year history of the AHL to reach that milestone. The Bruins are 456-442-102 all-time, and are 274-184-41 all-time on home ice. Friday's win moved the Black and Gold into third place in the Atlantic Division with its 20-12-2-6 record (48 points).
Providence goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped all 26 shots he faced in posting his fourth shutout of the season. The 20-year-old native of Kalvola, Finland is now tied with Andrew Raycroft for third in franchise history with six shutouts in 67 games. Toivonen is 17-10-3 on the season.
Bruin center Brad Boyes tallied a power play goal and shorthanded goal, his 15th and 16th goals of the season. Boyes, who ranks second on the team with 16-25-41 totals, has 4-4-8 totals over his last five games.
Fellow center Patrice Bergeron added his 12th goal, which proved to be the game-winner. He has 2-4-6 totals in four games since returning from the World Junior Championships. Left wing David Gove notched his seventh goal of the season, his second in as many games.
The Bruins visit the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m. The Bruins return home to host the Worcester IceCats on Sunday, January 16 at 4:05 p.m.
