Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, Mass. – Lowell Lock Monsters goaltender Cam Ward stopped each of the 38 shots he faced as the Springfield Falcons fell 2-0 at the Springfield Civic Center on Friday evening. Defenseman Richie Regehr and left wing Colin Forbes were credited with the scoring for Lowell. Ward registered his third shutout of the season in the Lock Monsters' win.

Following a scoreless first period in which the Falcons fired 17 shots on goal, Lowell took a 1-0 lead 2:03 into the second by converting a four-on-three power play. Regehr's low slap shot from the high slot sailed inside the post for his seventh goal of season.

At 5:54, Forbes flung a wrist shot toward the net after appearing to receive the puck in the Falcons' zone while off-sides by several feet. The Falcons also argued that the puck went off the side of the net and did not enter the goal. However, after a conference of the officiating crew, Lowell was credited with the marker. The goal was Forbes' 18th of the season and his eighth over his last 11 games.

Storr kept the Falcons within two goals with 7:30 remaining in the middle frame with a pad save to deny a shorthanded breakaway attempt by center Eric Staal, the second overall draft selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Lowell held an 11-9 shot advantage in the third period as neither team found the back of the net.

The Falcons finished the game scoreless on seven power-play opportunities. The Lock Monsters scored once on two chances with the man advantage.

Springfield outshot Lowell, 38-31, in the contest.

The Falcons return to the home of ice of the Civic Center to face the Worcester IceCats on Saturday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit the Springfield Civic Center box office.
