Sound Tigers Shut down by Hartford
March 29, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday night, falling by a final score of 4-0. Ryan Bourque had a pair of goals for the Wolf Pack, who scored three times in the second period to pull away. The two teams have now met 10 times in 2013-14, with each collecting five wins.
Bourque got his first goal less than five minutes into the game, though it wasn't initially ruled as such. Phillippe Trudeau, who signed an amateur tryout contract earlier in the week and was making his professional debut, appeared to make multiple saves after a scramble in front. Play continued until the next whistle and the officials went to video review. Upon the review, it was determined that Bourque had poked the puck across the goal line before it was swept away, which gave the Wolf Pack a 1-0 lead.
Bourque scored his second early in the second period and doubled the Sound Tigers deficit. Danny Syvret took a big shot from the point that changed direction in front and beat Trudeau to make it a 2-0 lead. Initially, Syvret was credited with the goal, but it was changed to Bourque's and gave him 20 on the season.
Less than four minutes later, an offensive zone faceoff for the Wolf Pack led to their third goal of the game. Marek Hrivik won the draw back to the left point, where Conor Allen let loose a one-timer that whistled past Trudeau for the goal.
Just past the midway point of the second period, the Wolf Pack struck again thanks to their leading goal-scorer, Danny Kristo. After a misplay through the neutral zone, Kristo broke into the zone well behind the Sound Tigers defense. He walked in on Trudeau and made a move to beat Trudeau and gave the Wolf Pack a 4-0 lead. That spelled the end of the night for the goaltender, who made 14 saves on 18 shots.
Kenny Reiter came on to the complete the game for the Sound Tigers in net and was stellar. He stopped all 13 shots he saw, including a couple of highlight-reel saves in the third. The Sound Tigers were unable to solve Wolf Pack goaltender David LeNeveu, however, who turned aside all 22 shots on goal from the Sound Tigers.
Both teams will be back on the ice Sunday afternoon for a 3 p.m. contest at Webster Bank Arena.
