Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY - The Albany Devils and the Worcester Sharks see-sawed all night, but it was Dan DaSilva's lone shootout goal in the third round that lifted the Sharks to a 4-3 victory Saturday at Times Union Center.
The two teams combined for six goals during the first 35 minutes of play, but neither club could find the back of the net in the third period or overtime. Keith Kinkaid, who has played twice since Mar. 15, suffered the loss despite making 28 saves and four in the shootout.
"I thought he looked sharp actually," said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky. "We were comfortable with the way he played in Atlantic City and I thought he looked sharp tonight. The shootout: sometimes we score or give up too many, but I thought he looked sharp. That's all you can ask for a goaltender to give up one for a shootout; you figure you would at least get one for him."
Kinkaid's former Union College teammate, Troy Grosenick, picked up the win with 18 stops and five in the skills competition.
Mattias Tedenby led all scorers with a goal and two assists. His linemates Stefan Matteau and Kelly Zajac each posted a goal and an assist.
"It was a couple steps up from last night," Zajac said of his line. "We were feeling the puck, competing, winning our battles, really finding each other in the corners and the soft areas, it helped our game."
Worcester (33-30-3-1) was led by Travis Oleksuk's goal and helper. Matt Tennyson and Eriah Hayes also tallied.
The Devils (34-21-4-8) opened the scoring at 8:26 of the first period when Tedenby found Matteau cutting towards the net for a one-timer at 8:26. The goal was his 13th of the season and the second in as many nights.
Tennyson followed at 11:07, but Tedenby scored on a breakaway setup by his linemates at 11:28.
"I think we had a good game, good skating, and we scored on our chances," Tedenby added.
Before the end of the period, Oleksuk tied the game, 2-2, at 19:00.
In the second, Hayes gave Worcester its first lead at 6:14, but Zajac's wrister from the slot at 14:39 on the power play helped secure a point for the Devils for the sixth time in the last seven outings.
"It was a perfect breakout that we've been practicing all year," Zajac said, describing the goal. "Tedenby made a great play, stepped up and left it in a soft area for me. I just saw low blocker and tried to get on as quick as possible."
The Devils return to action Sunday with a 3 pm outing against the Binghamton Senators. The first 2,000 fans to arrive will receive a Devils team poster. After the game, patrons can participate in the postgame autograph session or postgame skate.
