Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

NORFOLK, VA - Dominik Uher's third period shorthanded goal was the difference in the game, as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins posted a second straight 2-1 victory over the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday night at the Scope.

With the win, the Penguins (38-22-3-5, 84 points) moved seven points clear of the Admirals (34-24-2-7, 77 points) in the East Division standings. The Penguins are one point off of the division leading Binghamton Senators, who posted a 4-3 shootout victory in Syracuse on Saturday night.

Uher, whose last goal came on January 19 against the Providence Bruins, scored 56 seconds into the third period with what proved to be the decisive goal for the visitors. It was Uher's second shorthanded goal of the season, and second game-winner, giving the visitors their 20th road victory of the season.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the second period when Brendan Mikkelson tallied his eighth goal of the campaign. The eight goals in a season are a new personal best for the Penguins blueliner, whose 35 points are 10th among AHL defensemen this season.

Andrew Ebbett assisted on Mikkelson's goal, giving him helpers in 11 straight games for the Penguins, the second-longest streak in the AHL this season.

Devante Smith-Pelly cut the lead to 2-1 with a power play goal at 4:57 of the third period, but Peter Mannino stopped 10 of 11 shots in the third period - and 24 of 25 overall - to pick up his eighth win of the season for the Penguins. Mannino has posted a 7-2-0-1 since being recalled from Wheeling at the end of February, and has a 1.09 goals against average in his past 11 games with the Penguins.

The Penguins are off until Friday night, when they will host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:05pm.
