
Falcons Outlast Phantoms in Shootout

Glens Falls, New York - The Springfield Falcons (42-20-1-5) defeated the Adirondack Phantoms by the final score of 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center, as Cody Bass scored the decisive conversion in the sixth round of the shootout.
In his first shootout attempt of the season, Bass bet Adirondack netminder Cal Heeter for the game's deciding goal. Andrew Joudrey and Cody Goloubef also converted in the shootout for Springfield. Joudrey is now 5-for-9 in shootout attempts this season, while Goloubef is 4-for-8.
Dana Tyrell tied the game at 3-3 with 9:02 left in the third period, firing a wrist shot from the slot past Heeter. For Tyrell, the goal was his 14th of the season and fifth in 11 games with Springfield since coming to the team from the Syracuse Crunch.
Falcons captain Ryan Craig gave the team a 1-0 lead at 9:09 of the second period, notching his 17th goal of the 2013-14 campaign. The power-play tally was Craig's 34th as a member of the Falcons, a franchise career record. The Falcons are now 33-5-0-2 this season when scoring the first goal of the game.
Darryl Boyce scored his 14th goal of the season and third in the last two games at 13:22 of the second period, extending Springfield's lead to 2-0.
The Phantoms notched three unanswered scores to take a 3-2 lead in the third period. Brandon Manning at 16:15 of the second period, Mark Alt at 6:36 of the third period and Kevin Goumas at 7:10 of the third period registered the Adirondack goals.
Mike McKenna made 29 saves on 32 shots through regulation and overtime, and stopped four of six shootout attempts to earn his team-leading 21st victory of the season.
Heeter stopped 32 of 35 shots but allowed three of six shootout attempts past him, falling to 15-24-1 in 2013-14.
The Falcons went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Phantoms went 0-for-4. Springfield outshot Adirondack, 36-32.
The Falcons continue their current five-game road trip Tuesday, April 1 at the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 11:00 a.m. The team returns to the MassMutual Center Friday, April 11 to host the Portland Pirates at 7:00 p.m.
