November 26, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, scored three third-period goals to beat the Hartford Wolf Pack 3-1 at home Friday. It was the fifth straight win at home for the Sound Tigers who are also 4-0 when trailing after two periods of play at Bridgeport's this season.
After a scoreless first period, Hartford took the first lead of the game on a five-on-three, power-play goal by Jamie Lundmark, his third goal of the season, off assists from Lawrence Nycholat and Chad Wiseman 4:15 into the middle frame.
The Sound Tigers tied the game at 1-1 5:33 into the third period as Captain Richard Seeley scored his first goal with the team off assists from Rob Collins and Jim Campbell. Collins is now on a three-game point streak.
The Sound Tigers took their first lead of the game 2:47 later when Sean Bergenheim lasered an outlet pass to Justin Mapletoft who broke in alone and fired a shot past Wolf Pack Goaltender Stephen Valiquette. It was Mapletoft's third goal and team-leading 13th point of the season. The play began with some great work deep in the defensive zone by Bruno Gervais and Chris Campoli.
Hartford called timeout and pulled Valiquette in favor of an extra attacker with 1:57 left to play, but, after Sound Tigers Netminder Wade Dubielewicz made a pair of big saves and the Wolf Pack missed on a few other close opportunities, Bergenheim iced the win with his team-leading eighth goal of the season, an empty-netter, off an assist from Collins with 44.5 seconds left to play. Bergenheim also completed a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" when he fought with Hartford's Bryce Lampman in a minor melee after the final goal.
Mapletoft was the first star of the game with the winning goal, Seeley the second with the equalizer and Valiquette the third with 25 saves. Dubielewicz finished with 23 saves for his fourth win in five starts. The Sound Tigers registered their fourth shots on goal advantage in as many games at 28-24. They were also 0 for 5 on the power play while the Wolf Pack were 1 for 4.
The Sound Tigers will visit the Worcester IceCats tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com.
