Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost to the Portland Pirates 3-2 in the final game of a four-game, holiday home-stand Tuesday. The loss snapped Portland's nine-game, road, winless streak and marked the first time the Sound Tigers have lost back-to-back home games all season following Sunday's 3-2 loss in Bridgeport to the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Kevin Colley opened the scoring for the Sound Tigers with his seventh goal of the season, on the power play with another delayed penalty in effect, 9:49 into the game off assists from Bruno Gervais and Rob Collins, who upped his team-scoring lead to 12 assists and 22 points.
After the Pirates were held more than 13 minutes without a shot, Portland captain Graham Mink scored his seventh goal of the season at 16:03 to tie the score at 1-1. Michel Periard and Jakub Klepis were awarded assists on the play, and the 1-1 tie held up through the end of the opening frame.
Midway through the second period, a one-timer by Ryan Caldwell deflected off of Portland goaltender Maxime Ouellet onto the stick of Eric Godard who shot the puck into the net at 9:10 for his career-high third goal of the season. Colley and Caldwell received assists on the play, which regained the lead for the Sound Tigers at 2-1.
The Pirates' Brian Willsie scored his second goal of the season through a scrum in front of Sound Tiger goalie Dieter Kochan just 2:34 after the Godard marker to tie the game at 2-2. Mink and Periard were each awarded an assist on the play.
Portland's Chris Hajt notched his second goal of the season, the eventual game-winner, 5:05 into the third period with Steve Eminger earning the lone assist on the play.
The Sound Tigers were 1 for 7 on the power play and had a 29-20 shots on goal advantage. The Pirates were 1 for 5 on the power play. Mink was the first star of the game with a goal and an assist. Ouellet was the second star with 27 saves. Colley, with a goal and an assist, was the third star. Kochan made 17 saves in a losing effort.
The Sound Tigers will begin a stretch of seven straight road games when they visit the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this Friday, New Year's Eve, at 5:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM and at www.soundtigers.com.
