Crunch Take to the Road For Six

After playing 11 of their last 15 games at home, Syracuse embarks on a six-game road trip by traveling to Newfoundland for games against St. John's (December 29 and 30), Hamilton (January 2), Philadelphia (January 7), Binghamton (January 8) and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (January 9). The Crunch's next ‘home' game will take place over 470 miles from Syracuse at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio against the Cleveland Barons. Syracuse returns to the War Memorial on January 14.

GOERTZEN AND SANNITZ REASSIGNED TO DAYTON: The Crunch announced today that right wing Steven Goertzen and center Raffaele Sannitz were reassigned to Dayton (ECHL).

Goertzen, 20, has appeared in 20 games for the Crunch this season, recording 3 points (1g, 2a) and 44 penalty minutes. He had one assist in three games with Dayton (ECHL), earlier this season. A native of Stony Plain, Alberta, Goertzen was Columbus' 11th pick, 225th overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft.

Sannitz, 21, appeared in 22 games with the Crunch, recording four points (2g, 2a) and 8 penalty minutes. A native of Mendrisio, Switzerland, Sannitz was Columbus' ninth pick, 204th overall, in the 2000 Entry Draft.

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS:

ST. JOHN'S (TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS): Syracuse begins their six-game road trip in St. John's on Wednesday, December 29 and Thursday, December 30 for the fifth and sixth of eight regular season meetings. Syracuse leads the series 3-1, after defeating St. John's 6-2 at the War Memorial at Oncenter on December 4. Left wing Jeremy Reich (3g, 1a) and centers Alexander Svitov (3g, 1a) and Mark Hartigan (1g, 3a) lead all players in head-to-head scoring with four points. Center Matt Stajan leads all Maple Leafs players in head-to-head scoring with three points (2g, 1a). Karl Goehring has appeared in two games for Syracuse, posting a 1-1-0 record, a 3.01 goals against average and a .875 save percentage. Mikael Tellqvist has appeared in all four games for St. John's with a 1-2-1 record, a 2.94 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. Lifetime, the Crunch are 21-11-0 against the Maple Leafs.

HAMILTON (MONTREAL CANADIENS): The Crunch travels to Hamilton on Sunday, January 2 for the third of six regular season meetings. The series is tied at one, after Syracuse defeated Hamilton 4-1 on November 19 at the War Memorial at Oncenter. Center Mark Hartigan (3g) leads all players in head-to-head scoring with three points. Left wing Marc-Andre Thinel (2a) leads all Bulldogs players in head-to-head scoring with two points. Karl Goehring has appeared in one game for Syracuse, recording 23 saves. Yann Danis has appeared in both games for Hamilton, posting a 1-1-0 record, a 2.91 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. Lifetime Syracuse is 23-26-11 against Hamilton.

Crunch Players to Sign Autographs at Tully's: The Syracuse Crunch announced that Crunch players Joe Motzko, Jeremy Reich and Brandon Sugden will be at Tully's on Erie Blvd. on January 4 from 6-7 p.m. to sign autographs. Tully's is located at 2943 Erie Blvd. Call 449-1614 for directions.

INJURY UPDATE: Goaltender Pascal Leclaire is expected to miss three to four weeks with a groin injury. He has missed nine games with the injury. Defenseman Francois Beauchemin is listed as day-to-day with a hand injury that he suffered on December 18. He has missed three games with injury... Through 30 games this season, Syracuse has lost 39 man-games due to injuries. Pascal Leclaire – 9, Jeff Panzer – 8, Greg Mauldin - 6, Francois Beauchemin – 4, Mark Hartigan – 3, Zenith Komarniski – 3, Raffaele Sannitz – 2, Brandon Sugden – 2, Jamie Pushor – 1, and Aaron Johnson - 1, represent the Crunch's injury list this season.

CRUNCHABLES: Prior to allowing two short-handed goals to Binghamton on Monday night, Syracuse was one of only two teams (Hartford) not to allow a short-handed tally... Center Mark Hartigan (1g, 2a) and right wing Joe Motzko (2g, 2a) are on three-game point streaks... The two shots against by Binghamton in the third period on Monday night was the least shots allowed in a period by the Crunch this season... Syracuse's six penalty minutes Monday night is the club's lowest total this year... The Crunch have a 1-4-1-0 record when Alexander Svitov records a multiple point game.
