
Hauser Stops Grizzlies With League-Leading Fifth Shutout

MANCHESTER, NH â Goaltender Adam Hauser collected his league-leading fifth shutout of the season as the Manchester Monarchs defeated the Utah Grizzlies, 6-0, before 8,789 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday night. Hauser, who has five shutouts in 11 appearances this season, also blanked the Grizzlies, 5-0, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on October 23. The 24-year-old native of Bovey, Minnesota, who holds the Monarchs team record with 12 career shutouts, finished with 26 saves and his eighth win (8-2-0).
Left wing Dustin Brown (1-1=2), right wing George Parros (1-0=1), defenseman Tim Gleason (1-0=1), right wing Brad Smyth (1-0=1), right wing Tom Kostopoulos (1-2=3) and left wing Noah Clarke (1-0=1) had goals for the Monarchs, who extended their home ice unbeaten in regulation streak to 14 games (13-0-1-0). The Monarchs are the only team in the American Hockey League without a regulation loss on home ice this season.
The Monarchs, winners of three straight contests overall, improved to 24-4-2-1 and 51 points on the season. The Atlantic Division leaders hold a four-point lead on the second place Hartford Wolf Pack (22-8-1-2, 47 points), which lost to the Worcester IceCats, 4-3, at the DCU on Tuesday night.
The Monarchs built a 2-0 first period lead with goals from Brown at 7:49 and Parros at 11:20. Left wing Petr Kanko (0-2=2) assisted on Brown's 15th goal of the season. Defenseman Joe Rullier (0-1=1; plus-3) and Hauser shared assists on the second goal of the season for Parros. Hauser's assist was his first as a Monarch.
Gleason and Smyth beat goaltender David LeNeveu (33 shots, 27 saves) with goals at 12:01 and 16:06 of the middle period as the Monarchs opened a four-goal advantage. Kanko and rookie center Matt Ryan (0-1=1) assisted on Gleason's fourth goal of the campaign. Kostopoulos and center Yanick Lehoux (0-2=2) collected assists on Smyth's seventh goal of the season, scored on the power play.
Lehoux, who leads the AHL in scoring with 47 points (20-27=47), also earned an assist on the Kostopoulos goal, scored on the power play at 5:04 of the final period. Like Lehoux, Brown also notched his second point of the night with an assist on Kostopoulos' 16th marker of the season. Clarke closed the scoring with his 10th goal, scored shorthanded at 18:50. Kostopoulos, who leads the Monarchs with 16 multi-point games, had the only assist on the play.
LeNeveu took the loss, his 13th this season (5-13-1). Manchester finished 2-5 on the power play. Utah finished 0-4.
The Monarchs return to action when they meet the Lowell Lock Monsters at the Tsongas Arena at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29. After that, the Monarchs will close 2004 by hosting the Lock Monsters at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, December 31. The Monarchs are also scheduled to host the Providence Bruins at the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, January 1, 2005.
Ticket Availability: 40 seats (singles seats) in the Gold level and 40 seats (singles seats) in the Silver level remain for the Monarchs game against the Lock Monsters on Friday, December 31.
60 seats (single seats) in the Gold level and 1,600 seats in the Silver level remain for the Monarchs game against the Bruins on Saturday, January 1.
