Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs thrilled the hometown crowd by scoring three unanswered goals, including two third period markers, earning them a 3-2 win over the visiting Edmonton Road Runners Monday night at Copps Coliseum.
Hamilton native and Stanley Cup winner Dave Andreychuk was honoured before the game and more than 8,000 fans were in attendance.
The Road Runners opened the scoring fourteen minutes into the game on a goal by forward Dan Baum. Baum redirected a pass from Kyle Brodziak into the top corner for his third goal of the season.
In the second period, the Road Runners would make it 2-0 on a Raffi Torres rebound that forward Mike Bishai stuffed into the net. The goal came at the 6:20 mark of the second period and was the third of the season for Bishai.
With time winding down in the second period the Bulldogs got on the board on a power play marker by Duncan Milroy. Chris Higgins poked the puck to the point to Trevor Daley who fired a shot along the ice toward the net. Milroy was in the slot and tipped the shot past goalie Jeff Deslauriers for his fifth of the season. The goal came at 19:04 of the second and ended a power play drought that last 26 opportunities.
The Road Runners held a 24-12 edge in shots after two periods and led 2-1 on the scoreboard.
Early in the third period forward Raitis Ivanans drew a penalty and Corey Locke came on as the extra-attacker. Locke took the puck in the right slot and fanned on a slap shot before firing his second attempt into the top corner of the net. The goal, Locke's team-leading ninth of the season, came at 4:32 of the third, tying the game. Ivanans picked up his first point of the season with an assist.
Seven minutes later the Bulldogs took the lead on a spectacular effort by Tomas Plekanec. Plekanec came down the ice one-on-one against the Edmonton defenceman, sped past him wide and tucked in his eighth of the season. The goal would prove to be the game winner and was the 50th for Plekanec as a member of the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs' next action will take place on Saturday, December 11th when they will travel to Rochester to take on the Amerks. Game time will be 7:35pm and fans can listen to all the action live at www.hamiltonbulldogs.com or AM 820-CHAM.
