Bridgeport Islanders News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Penn. (March 25, 2018) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (31-26-5-3), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, complete a four-game road trip this afternoon with a 3:05 p.m. puck drop against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (38-19-6-2) at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. The Sound Tigers have dropped 11 points out of a playoff spot following their third straight loss on Friday, in which Casey Bailey scored Bridgeport's only goal in a 4-1 setback to the Syracuse Crunch. Sebastian Aho and Travis St. Denis both assisted on the power-play tally, giving the latter a team-leading 38 points (20 goals, 18 assists) in 63 games. In addition, Kristers Gudlevskis made 26 saves in his seventh straight appearance, but fell to 2-4-0 during that span. Bridgeport hasn't lost four straight games in regulation since Dec. 3-15, 2017 and will look to avoid that this afternoon.

TIGERS VS. PENGUINS
Today's contest marks the fourth of six meetings between the Sound Tigers and Penguins this season, and the second of three matchups in Pennsylvania. Bridgeport is 1-1-1-0 against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this year and each of the last two games have gone to overtime. The Sound Tigers suffered a 3-2 loss in their last meeting on Jan. 3, in which Teddy Blueger scored the winner just 26 seconds into OT, but Bridgeport also earned a 3-2 win on Dec. 16 led by Sebastian Aho's game-winning strike - also 26 seconds into the extra frame. Stamford, Conn. native Ryan Haggerty leads all scorers in the season series with three goals and four points for the Penguins, tied with Zach Aston-Reese (one goal, three assists).
VIEW FROM WILKES-BARRE
The second-place Penguins trimmed their magic number to "nine" with a 5-4 shootout win against the Binghamton Devils last night in New York. Andrey Pedan, Garrett Wilson, Jarred Tinordi and Joseph Cramarossa all collected regulation goals, while Wilson and Daniel Sprong each scored in a lengthy eight-round shootout. It was Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's third straight game beyond regulation and snapped a two-game slide. Sprong continues to pace the team offensively with 51 points (24 goals, 27 assists) in 54 games, which is also second among AHL rookies. Sprong enters today's contest on a six-game point streak.
POWER UP
Casey Bailey has eight points (five goals, three assists) in his last nine games and all but one of those have come on the power play. He scored Bridgeport's lone tally in Friday's 4-1 loss to Syracuse with a one-time blast from the left circle, giving the fourth-year forward a team-leading eight power-play goals this season (tied with Travis St. Denis). In addition, Bailey leads Bridgeport with 18 points on the man advantage (eight goals, 10 assists) and has helped the club score at least one power-play goal in seven of its last nine games.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
The Sound Tigers have added three players this month, including defenseman Ryan MacKinnon, who signed an AHL contract on Tuesday that extends through 2018-19. MacKinnon spent each of the last three seasons at the University of Prince Edward Island, where he received First All-Star Team honors this year before turning pro with the Worcester Railers of the ECHL. He had nine points (two goals, five assists) in nine games with Worcester. In addition, Ryan Hitchcock was signed to an amateur tryout (ATO) out of Yale University on Mar. 8 and has three assists in five pro games. Tyler Mueller also agreed to terms on an ATO out of UMass-Lowell on Mar. 11, but has yet to make his debut.
