Sens Score Season High Eight Goals in Win over Laval
March 25, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release
The Belleville Senators scored a season-high eight goals as they beat the Laval Rocket 8-2 Sunday afternoon at the Yardmen Arena.
Ville Pokka (3), Colin White, Christian Jaros, David Dziurzynski, Boston Leier and Eric Selleck scored for the Senators while in his debut, Filip Gustavsson made 37 saves. Kerby Rychel and Adam Cracknell scored for Laval while Charlie Lindgren stopped 24 shots.
Laval opened the scoring 4:51 into the game on Rychel's 18th goal of the year as he took advantage of a Senators turnover in their own zone to beat Gustavsson, who couldn't quite keep the puck out after getting an arm on the shot.
But Belleville found its equalizer at 10:24 through White who scored an outstanding short-handed goal as he beat Lindgren with a forehand, backhand move on a breakaway for his 11th of the year.
And the Sens had the lead with 2:32 left in the period through Pokka's first goal in a Belleville jersey as he found the puck just behind the net after Max Reinhart had been denied and pulled the puck out front before depositing past Lindgren on the man advantage.
The Senators pushed its lead to 3-1 3:39 into the middle frame through Pokka's second of the night as he wired a wrist shot past Lindgren from the right faceoff circle on the power play.
Cracknell's 26th of the year, a re-direct on a slap pass from Eric Gelinas, made it 3-2 at 13:57 on the man advantage but Belleville would restore its two-goal lead with 21.2 seconds left as Jaros bagged his third of the year on a line drive slap shot that never left the ice surface.
The Senators exploded for four third period goals that started with Dziurzynski getting his first for Belleville at 8:04 as he cleaned up a loose puck in front of the goal to make it 5-2.
Leier would grab his first professional goal at 15:15 as the Sens broke in on a 3-on-1 and Leier hammered White's cross-ice feed past Lindgren before Selleck notched his second goal with Belleville 1:18 later as he buried a puck that bounced off the end boards.
And Pokka would complete his hat-trick with one minute left in regulation as his shot from the right side of the blue line went high on Lindgren who made the save but couldn't find the puck behind him as it trickled over the goal line for his first AHL hat-trick.
White played in his 50th career AHL game for Belleville. Ethan Werek had three assists for the Senators while Ryan Scarfo notched his first career point.
Belleville is back in action on Friday when they visit the Syracuse Crunch for the final time. The Sens return home on April 4 to host the Springfield Thunderbirds for the only time this season. Tickets are available.
