Sound Tigers Bounced From Playoff Picture
April 13, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Bridgeport Islanders News Release
The Hartford Wolf Pack defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-0 before 5,899 fans at the Hartford Civic Center on Friday night and in doing so eliminated the Sound Tigers from playoff contention. The Sound Tigers dropped to 35-36-1-6 and the Wolf Pack, which won each of the last nine meetings of the season with Bridgeport, improved to 47-28-3-1. This Sound Tiger setback coupled with the point Albany earned in an overtime defeat to Binghamton on Friday puts Albany into the East Division playoffs ending a competitive and lengthy race with the Sound Tigers.
Dave Liffiton scored Friday's first goal with a blast from the point late in the first period. His second goal of the season, at 18:15 of the opening period, would be all Wolf Pack goaltender Al Montoya would need to win a 20-save performance.
The Wolf Pack took a 2-0 lead on Bryce Lampman's power play tally at 13:16 of the second. Sound Tigers' goalie Michael Mole made a diving stop on Hugh Jessiman, one of his 33 saves, to keep the Sound Tigers close in the third. The Sound Tigers, however, with some of their top scorers nursing injuries and on recall to the parent club New York Islanders, were shut out for the second consecutive game. Nigel Dawes hit the empty net to cap the scoring.
The Wolf Pack outshot Bridgeport 36-20. The Sound Tigers were 0-for-6 on the power play and Hartford was 1-for-8 on the man advantage.
The Sound Tigers return home on Saturday to host the Philadelphia Phantoms at 7 p.m. The regular season ends with a home game against Norfolk on Sunday at 1 p.m. Great seats for Sound Tiger games are available at the Arena Box Office.
