Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - Rookie goaltender Carey Price, who was signed to a three-year contract by the Montreal Canadiens and assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs on Tuesday, April 10th, will start his first-career professional game tonight at Copps Coliseum when the Bulldogs take on the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7:30 p.m.
Price, 19, was selected in the 1st round, 5th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. The native of Williams Lake, British Columbia, completed the 2006-07 season with a record of 30 wins, 13 losses and one overtime loss, a 2.45 goals against average, a .917 save percentage and three shutouts in 46 games with the Tri-City Americans in the Western Hockey League. His performances helped his team finish in second place in the U.S. Division of the Western Conference with 47 wins and 96 points, two franchise records.
The 6-foot-3, 212-pound netminder helped Canada win a gold medal at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Sweden. Selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player and named to the All-Star Team, Price won each of his team's six games, posting a 1.14 goals against average and a .961 save percentage. He also registered two shutouts.
A season-high crowd is expected to be on hand for 'Fan Appreciation Night' this evening when the 'Dogs renew their rivalry with the Griffs in their final home game of the 2006-07 regular season. The Bulldogs have opened the upper bowl at Copps Coliseum for the game, but there is still limited seating available in the lower bowl.
In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.
The Bulldogs next game is on Saturday, April 14th at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids to battle the Griffins. Fans can listen to the game on the flagship station of the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Network, 820 CHAM "The Legend," beginning with the Park's Furniture Pre-Game Show at 6:40 p.m. Fans can also listen or watch at www.hamiltonbulldogs.com by clicking on the 'B2 Networks' or '820 CHAM' icon on the 'Dogs website.
