Chicago Wolves News Release

Chicago Wolves right wing DARREN HAYDAR has been named the winner of the Les Cunningham Award as the American Hockey League's most valuable player for the 2006-07 season. This marks the first time that a Wolves player has earned the league's highest individual honor.

HAYDAR leads the AHL with a 77 assists and 116 points - both career-highs - and ranks fourth with a career-best 39 goals and 16 power-play markers in 70 games this season. His 77 helpers are the third highest single-season total in club history, and his 116 points rank fourth in the Wolves all-time single-season records. He is just the third player in franchise history to crack the 100-point mark, and the first to do so since the 1998-99 season.

"Darren's record setting achievements and importance to our team on the ice are surpassed only by the professionalism and class that he brings our team off the ice," said Wolves General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff. "On behalf of the Chicago Wolves, I would like to congratulate him on this amazing accomplishment."

The 27-year-old forward, who was named to the AHL's 2006-07 First All-Star team last week, made history earlier this season with a stretch that saw him record at least one point in 39 consecutive games (Oct. 7 - Jan. 6), a mark that tied Wayne Gretzky's 1985-86 run with the Edmonton Oilers (NHL) as the fourth-longest streak in professional hockey history. He posted 79 points (24G, 55A) during his historic run, which is both an AHL and franchise record.

"I'm really flattered that the voters considered me. It's a great honor but wouldn't be possible without the help of my teammates," said HAYDAR. "At the end of the day, we play this game for the team prize, not the individual accomplishments."

The Toronto native recorded a goal for the Canadian All-Star Team in the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Game and has notched a point in 61 of his 70 outings with the Wolves this season, which includes 34 multiple-point performances and 15 with three or more. HAYDAR also set a club record when he tallied an assist in 14 consecutive contests from Nov. 4 to Dec. 8, notching 23 during that time.
