April 13, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Connecticut Whale News Release
Hartford, April 13, 2007: The Hartford Wolf Pack topped the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-0 tonight in the final meeting of the regular season between the two clubs and officially won their third consecutive GEICO Connecticut Cup. The Wolf Pack have now won the GEICO Connecticut Cup Challenge, which pits the Wolf Pack against their in-state rivals the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for ten regular-season games, every year since the challenge began in 2004-2005.
Making it look so easy a caveman could do it, The Wolf Pack went 9-1-0-0 vs. their GEICO Connecticut Cup rivals this year, winning nine consecutive meetings after losing their season opener to the New York Islanders' AHL affiliate. In 2005-06, the Wolf Pack took the series 7 (W)-3(L)-0(OTL)-0(OSL) and in 2004-05, the final head-to-head record between the teams was 6 (W)-2(L)-2(OTL)-0(SOL).
Prior to tonight's game, GEICO representative David Johnson presented the GEICO Connecticut Cup to Captain Craig Weller on the ice.
The Wolf Pack like to thank GEICO for again sponsoring this intrastate rivalry between the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the Hartford Wolf Pack, and would also like to thank them for their overall continued support to the club.
With tonight's win, the Wolf Pack clinched 2nd place in the Atlantic Division and home ice advantage for the first round of the Atlantic Division Semi-Finals. The Wolf Pack are still waiting on an opponent but the dates and times for their first two home games will remain the same regardless of who they face and will be:
Game 1: Wednesday, April 18 @ Hartford, 7:00 PM faceoff
