Norfolk Admirals News Release

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Pierre Parenteau had a goal and three assists as the Norfolk Admirals (49-21-6-2) stopped a four-game winless streak with a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phantoms (30-40-2-6) on Friday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. The Admirals now know that they will face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the opening round of the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Parenteau opened scoring at 8:12 when he stashed home a rebound from behind the goal line. Cam Barker's initial shot was deflected by Martin St. Pierre on net. Parenteau reached around from behind the net and pushed the puck over the goal line. The Phantoms answered just 16 seconds later with a Jared Ross tally that beat Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford five-hole at 8:28.

Jonas Nordqvist put Norfolk on top 2-1 under two minutes later. His shot beat Munroe glove-side while the Admirals took advantage of a five-on-three power play at 10:22. Philadelphia answered with a man-advantage tally of their own just over four minutes later, as former Admiral Mark Cullen found an errant clearing attempt and put it past Crawford at 14:54.

The Admirals took a 3-2 lead heading into the locker room after one period. Jake Dowell entered the Philly zone with speed down the slot and sent a snap shot from the right hashmarks past Munroe's glove at 17:27.

Bruno St. Jacques completed a give-and-go with David Bolland to double the Norfolk lead just 52 seconds into the middle period. The Admirals took a 5-2 lead just under seven minutes later on a two-on-one when Parenteau sent a pass to the tape of Jack Skille, who one-timed it past Munroe at 7:51.

Claude Giroux sliced the lead to two-goals with his first professional goal at 12:45. However, Admirals Captain Craig MacDonald re-established the three-goal lead by converting a Carl Corazzini feed at 15:37. Neither team dented the twine in the final frame as the Admirals earned a 6-3 victory.

Crawford (40 shots, 37 saves) earned the victory. Munroe (22 shots, 16 saves) was saddled with the loss. Martin Houle stopped all eight shots he saw in the final frame.

Norfolk was 1-4 on the power play. Philadelphia was 1-6.

The Admirals (106 points) remain in third place in the East Division, six points behind the Hershey Bears (50-16-6-6, 112 points), who clinched the East Division regular season title tonight. Norfolk is also two points behind the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (50-21-2-4, 108 points), who lost to Hershey tonight. The Admirals have a game-in-hand on the Penguins. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Norfolk will be seeded either second or third in the division. In the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs, seeds two and three in each division play each other, guaranteeing an Admirals-Penguins opening round matchup. Norfolk and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton have never met in the post-season.

The Admirals conclude the regular season with two games away from Scope. However, you can watch both live here in Norfolk via B2 Nights at Baxter's. Join your fellow Admirals fans at Baxter's Sports Lounge tomorrow and Sunday as the Admirals visit Albany River Rats and Bridgeport Sound Tigers, respectively, and jostle for playoff positioning. It's sure to be a great time! Baxter's Sports Lounge is located across the street from Norfolk Scope Arena at 500 Granby Street in Norfolk. For more details, please visit norfolkadmirals.com.
