Bridgeport Islanders News Release

LOWELL, MA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, beat the Lowell Lock Monsters 3-2 in overtime on the road Sunday with Jeremy Colliton scoring the game-winning goal just 17 seconds into the extra session.

The Sound Tigers took a 1-0 lead when Wyatt Smith swept home the rebound of a Travis Brigley shot for his tenth goal of the season 5:50 into the first period with Cole Jarrett also assisting on the power-play marker. The goal extended the Sound Tigers power-play scoring streak to five games.

Lowell entered the game ranked third on the penalty kill and tied the score at 1-1 with that unit on the ice as all-star Keith Aucoin fired a turnaround shot from a tough angle in the left wing corner for his team-leading 16th goal, the Lock Monsters' ninth shortie of the season, 3:34 into the second period.

The Sound Tigers regained the lead with another power-play goal when Joel Bouchard blasted a slapshot from the mid-point through traffic for his second marker of the year off assists from Rob Collins and Hamilton 7:40 into the third period, but Lowell tied it at 2-2 with 2:56 left in regulation when Nicolas Corbeil lofted home a wrister from high on the right wing for his second tally of the season off assists from Jeff Finger and Vince Bellissimo.

The Sound Tigers controlled the puck off the face-off to start the overtime and moved it up the right wing where Hamilton took the back end of a give-and-go feed from Jarrett and zipped a pass into the slot where Colliton chipped it past Lock Monsters goaltender Vitaly Kolesnik for his tenth goal of the season and the 3-2 win.

Hamilton extended a scoring streak to 12 games with his two-assist effort.

Bouchard was the first star of the game, Aucoin the second and Sound Tigers netminder Frederic Cloutier the third with a 30-save effort for the win. Kolesnik made 27 saves in a losing effort as Lowell had a 32-30 shots on goal advantage. The Sound Tigers were 2 for 6 on the power play and 4 for 4 on the penalty kill.

The Sound Tigers will finish a three-game-in-less-than-three-day weekend when they return home to host the Norfolk Admirals in a special holiday matinee tomorrow, Monday, January 16th at 1:05 p.m. on "State Employees Day" with free admission for all State of Connecticut employees who show valid identification at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard box office.
